IMI ACCREDITATION LIGHT VEHICLE INSPECTION TECHNICIAN
The IMI Level 3 Light Vehicle Inspection Technician Accreditation route is intended for technicians whose job role involves the inspection, maintenance and repair of light vehicles.
This is one of our most comprehensive offerings. It consists of eight days classroom training and practical workshop training plus home study work. All practical and on-line exams are included within this package as well.
This is ideal for those who want to progress to become an MOT Tester, as this accreditation is an industry recognised accreditation and is accepted by DVSA to allow someone to apply for the MOT Training Scheme.
An Inspection Technician must be able to work unsupervised. Ideally, they should be in full time employment with at least 3 years experience to ensure they are familiar with the techniques for vehicle servicing, inspection, repair and system(s) diagnosis.
To maintain their accreditation and ensure that they remain current, the individual is reassessed every three years.
What does the course involve?
In order to achieve IMI Accreditation, the individual must pass a series of practical skills and knowledge modules at an IMI Approved Centre and sign the IMI Code of Conduct. These practical skills are made up of 5 modules:
• Steering and Suspension
• Vehicle Appraisal
The knowledge modules are two online tests which cover a technician's general knowledge of Health and Safety and motor vehicles, including braking systems, steering and suspension systems, electrical systems, emission systems and vehicle structure and corrosion.
